Campus Life: Golden Hours

In our school, we have what we call the golden hour view that pulls each and everyone stays a little while and seizes the wonder of the sky and the nostalgia of talking with your friend. That’s why it is unusual for a student to go home right away after classes end. Aside from the extra tasks, we stay in the open field to rest and talk about stuff. We often discuss social issues that may be included in our recitation the next day. It really helps us not just academically but also to stay aware of what's happening around us.

As graduate students, it became a tradition for my circle which consists of eight of my friends to lie down in the open field every Friday. We always share ideas and opinions about current issues and since we have different perspectives, we sometimes argued but in a healthy manner. At times, we talk about our personal lives too. Last time, we had a deep conversation about the things we wanted. Others answered about the profession they dream of, others mention the little matters that make them happy. But one thing is for sure, these people are truly selfless. Not just from their answers that they want to serve the people, but because I’m with them five times a week for ten months and I have thoroughly witnessed their hard work and dedication in helping others.

Every time I see them do good deeds without their awareness that I am looking at them, I can fully say that these people are filled with kindness and integrity. That they truly belong in the School of Humanity. As they continue the conversation, I can see the rays of the sun reflect on their eyes and it is truly priceless. I think to myself that I am with the right people.

My golden hour with my friends isn’t just golden because the sun is about to set and its red, orange and yellow light rays boldly spread into the sky, but because I’m with these people that have golden hearts. People that are passionate about other beings and dedicate themselves to the betterment of the community. I will surely keep and treasure this moment forever for I know when days are hard and it seems impossible to have faith, I will pull it out of my pocket and look at it, be reminded that there are people like them.
